Daniel H. Birman

President & Executive Producer

Daniel H. Birman is an award-winning documentary producer based in Los Angeles.

A seasoned veteran of the business, he began his career producing medical television for Lifetime. With hundreds of hours under his belt, he founded Birman Productions, Inc. in 1999 with a medical series for Discovery Health on alternative medicine.

Of his greatest achievements is his documentary, Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story. The award-winning feature profiled a young woman sentenced to life in prison as juvenile. Birman spent six years producing the film, which has gained millions of followers. The film aired on PBS - Independent Lens, was shown as part of the ITVS Community Cinema Program, and has been incorporated into school curricula. As a result of the documentary, Cyntoia now has a high-powered legal team working on her behalf pro bono -- not only to appeal for a lighter sentence, but to also try and fix our country's harsh juvenile justice laws. The documentary continues to be seen worldwide, with a follow-up as a continual work-in-progress.

Birman graduated from film school at Cal State University - Long Beach. He went on to get his master's degree in journalism from the University of Southern California, where he is currently a professor of professional practice at the Annenberg School of Journalism.

Birman currently serves on the Board of Governors for the Television Academy representing the documentary peer group, and is also chairman of the membership committee.
