Abbey Martichenko joined Birman Productions in 2023. As a coordinator, she supports both development and production teams for the company. This includes researching ideas, vetting information for journalistic integrity, assisting with pitch materials, and providing assistance in the field and in post-production. 

 

As a recent graduate from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, she is passionate about documentaries and longform visual storytelling.  During her time as a student, she was supervising producer for Annenberg’s award-winning, student-produced documentary series, Impact.  She also produced and edited a documentary called Facing Mortality, which won third place at the 2023 L.A. Press Club Awards. The story was about one family’s journey through terminal illness and the importance of End of Life options. Additionally, she served as the podcast editor, a features writer, and a photo staff member for the school newspaper, The Daily Trojan. She was also selected as one of sixteen awardees to join the fall 2022 cohort of The USC Arts & Climate Collective, an initiative that offers support and awards funding to students who are deploying their creativity to build and imagine sustainable futures.

 

She aspires to utilize her skillset in research, development, and production to share stories that explore the complexities of the human experience, encourage conversation, and build community.
